FEEDBACK QUESTIONS
We will be showcasing our music video to our class and teacher later today so we thought it would be important to put together a set of possible questions to ask our peers to receive the most useful feedback possible.

PORTRAIT SHOTS
Throughout our video we want to show that the lyrics and storyline is relatable to a lot of other people and it's something that different people can go through. We are doing this through including portraits of different people as cutaway shots. These shots will also be more structured compared to the rest of the video which will be hand held.
Some example of still portrait shots from a variety of music videos are shown above and a music video that includes them too is below.

LYRICS FOR TEENAGE FANTASY (IDEA 2)
You weren't the boy I thought I knew
Maybe I was blind, I was young, I didn't have a clue
You were the topic of my lunch times
I'd bore the girls about our chance
And get upset when you didn't text back
Maybe I was blind, I was young, I didn't have a clue
You were the topic of my lunch times
I'd bore the girls about our chance
And get upset when you didn't text back
I was warned by my brothers to find another lover
Stop falling for these boys who didn't want the same as me
And I was warned by my brothers to find another lover
Stop falling for these boys who didn't want the same as me
Stop falling for these boys who didn't want the same as me
And I was warned by my brothers to find another lover
Stop falling for these boys who didn't want the same as me
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
I've got a lot of things to do
What if I had been a fool
And thought I was in love with you
I need to grow and find myself before I let somebody love me
Because at the moment I don't know me
What if I had been a fool
And thought I was in love with you
I need to grow and find myself before I let somebody love me
Because at the moment I don't know me
When I was told by my father
If I look into the future
Do I really see this boy
That I think I've fallen for
And I was told by my mother
If I look into the future
Do I really see this boy
That I think I've fallen for
If I look into the future
Do I really see this boy
That I think I've fallen for
And I was told by my mother
If I look into the future
Do I really see this boy
That I think I've fallen for
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
When we are young
We all want someone
Who we think is the one
Just to fit in
There's no need to rush
Take your time
Life's a big old ride
Sit back and enjoy the vibe
When we are young
We all want someone
Who we think is the one
Just to fit in
There's no need to rush
Take your time
Life's a big old ride
Sit back and enjoy the vibe
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
We all want someone
Who we think is the one
Just to fit in
There's no need to rush
Take your time
Life's a big old ride
Sit back and enjoy the vibe
When we are young
We all want someone
Who we think is the one
Just to fit in
There's no need to rush
Take your time
Life's a big old ride
Sit back and enjoy the vibe
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
We all want a teenage fantasy
Want it when we can't have it
When we got it we don't seem to want it
MUSIC VIDEO IDEA 2 - TEENAGE FANTASY
A theme we would want to include throughout this music video is "journeys" and we will show this by focusing on public transport. This will be to reflect that a lot of what the characters are going through are daily events and it's something that a lot of people can relate to. Having various shots on public transport will also subvert common soul and R&B conventions as after watching several music videos, I have noticed that they don't include a lot of this. However, it might become a problem when filming as we aren't sure on if we will be allowed to do this without asking for permission.
The main line in the lyrics that we are focusing on is "want it when you can't have it but when you have it you don't seem to want it". The idea will be to show a couple doing everyday activities, such as going on public transport as well as casual dates in a park or shopping. However, the to relate it to the lyrics, the girl in the relationship won't be in love whilst the boy is. There will also be another character, outside of the relationship, who is single and is wanting to be in a relationship. Showing the contrasts between the two will help portray the idea that once you have something, you might not want it however much you previously did.

LYRICS FOR NIGHT BUS (IDEA 1)
I'm on the night bus
I'm thinking about us
The streetlights go fleeting by
The man sat next to me
Is texting somebody
I wonder what that feels like
Maybe I'm reckless
But I just can't shake this
It follows me home at night, at night
It's getting clearer every mile we ride
Suddenly I know
That I'm on my way home
To you for the last time
It's not what you wanted
But I know you got this
And you're gonna be fine
Oh, I've just been watching
The world as it's turning
And that's what it feels like
Suddenly I know
That I'm on my way home
To you for the last time
I'm on the night bus
That's crawling with lovers
Who hide from the cold white light
I see my reflection
Dazed and complacent
She follows me home at night, at night
It's getting clearer every mile we ride
Suddenly I know
That I'm on my way home
To you for the last time
It's not what you wanted
But I know you got this
And you're gonna be fine
Oh, I've just been watching
The world as it's turning
And that's what it feels like
Suddenly I know
That I'm on my way home
To you for the last time
At night, at night, at night
It's getting clearer every mile we ride
Suddenly I know
That I'm on my way home
To you for the last time
It's not what you wanted
But I know you got this
And you're gonna be fine

MUSIC VIDEO IDEA 1 - NIGHT BUS
THE IDEA:
The majority of indie music videos follow the common convention of having lip syncing. Throughout my video, I will include various shots of the main character singing on a bus during the night.
There will be shots taken in different locations of the main character being alone whilst having other scenes of her in the same locations and same camera angle but will be a flashback / memory of her with her partner. The two scenes will contrast against each other and reflect the storyline throughout the lyrics since I am interpreting them to be about a break-up.
Some of the contrasting scenes will be located on the streets of Shoreditch where there are various walls with graffiti, a campfire, and of course a bus.
The "memories" will be shown through editing the colours and adding filters on the shots. I will try to go for a similar look as in this video.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FILM OPENING AND MUSIC VIDEO
Through constructing a music video for my prelim and a film opening for my AS coursework, I have learnt that there are many differences between the two.
For example, music videos are much more fast paced and require more editing throughout. The individual shots to make up a scene are all usually a lot shorter meaning it takes up more filming to make up the same amount of time as you would for a film opening.
Also, during a film opening, you don't have to think about editing to the beat whereas in music videos, that is vital. In music videos that include lip syncing, you also have to match up the lips to the lyrics which can sometimes be very difficult to get the exact timing.

ANDREW GOODWIN'S THEORY
Andrew Goodwin stated "Music videos ignore common narrative as they are essentially advertisements. As consumers, we make your own meaning of a song in our minds: a music video can anchor meaning and gives the record company/artist a method of anchoring meaning."
There are six conventions to Goodwin's theory:
1. A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, which illustrates, amplifies or contradicts the lyrics. An example of this is Michael Jackson - "Thriller"
2. Thought beats (seeing the sounds): the relationship between the music and the visuals, which illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics. An example of where the visuals within a music video may have been edited in time to the pace of the song is Set It Off - "Life Afraid"
3. Genre characteristics: related style and iconography present (mise-en-scene). An example of this is Coast To Coast - "Bloom" since this video is only performance with zero narrative. This follows Goodwin's theory because it is a pop punk song which often have performance music videos.
4. Multiple close-ups of the main artist or vocalist: the creation of the star image to promote a recognizable brand image and to sell the artist. An example of this is Girli - "So You Think You Can F**k With Me Do Ya". Within this video, there are a lot of shots of the singer as her face is used to sell the music.
5. Voyeurism: There's a frequent reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, mobile phones, billboard and especially in relation to the female body). An example of this is Rihanna's - "Stay" where her female body is being objectified. This video is mostly showing her in the bath where her body is clearly visible. This is voyeurism because we are watching her in what is usually a private situation.
6. Intertextual references to other media texts may be present, especially in humorous or parody videos. An example of this is The 1975 - "A Change Of Heart" because the narrative throughout this music video relates to another song from the same band called "Robbers".
