DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FILM OPENING AND MUSIC VIDEO

Through constructing a music video for my prelim and a film opening for my AS coursework, I have learnt that there are many differences between the two.
For example, music videos are much more fast paced and require more editing throughout. The individual shots to make up a scene are all usually a lot shorter meaning it takes up more filming to make up the same amount of time as you would for a film opening.
Also, during a film opening, you don't have to think about editing to the beat whereas in music videos, that is vital. In music videos that include lip syncing, you also have to match up the lips to the lyrics which can sometimes be very difficult to get the exact timing.

FINAL PRELIM

This is our final preliminary task.

FLIPPED

Whilst filming our prelim, we noticed that a lot of the shots were reversed and we filmed with the two characters the other way round. However, we decided to keep it like that and flip it in editing. We didn't previously know how to do this but after a quick google search we figured it out. We had to go on iMovie, video effects and click flipped.

PRELIM SHOOTING SCHEDULE

To be able to film our preliminary task as efficiently as possible, we have decided to create a schedule so that we are more organised.

We will first film the forest scene on the 23rd of June where we will go to Hilly Fields to film it. We are hoping to get it all done within an hour or so.

The shot where the glass breaks and the shot with the blanket will both be filmed on the 27th of June

After this we will then film the argument scene on the 2nd of July which we will hopefully get done in a few hours.

Anything we may have to re-film will be done after we look at all the footage so we can film it all again at once, making our schedules more organised and efficient.

PRELIM CAST

During the opening of the "Boys Will Be Boys" music video, there are only two characters. The main character, which will be played by me. The only other character appears is the father in the fighting scene and will be played by phoebe.

PRELIM PROPS

There won't be many props needed for us to film our prelim. We will only need a glass which we will need to break, a bed sheet and some paints to cover the bed sheet in. We are planning on finding the glass and paints in poundland or charity shops but will hopefully find an old bed sheet we don't mind ruining.

PRELIM LOCATIONS

For our preliminary task, we will need to find 4 locations including:

A forest: We are planning on filming this in hilly fields because we know that there's a tree that has fallen and looks similar to the one in the video. We will be going to hilly fields on Friday to hopefully film all of the shots we need from there.
Bed cover: This shot last about 4 seconds and is just of a bed cover being waved around covered in finger paints. We will be able to film this anywhere since there isn't a background visible.

A kitchen: This shot is of the floor (in what looks like a kitchen) and just shows a glass falling and breaking. This will be filmed in my kitchen where the camera will be placed on the floor to make it look as similar as possible.

A living room: The last scene is of the main character and his father arguing which is in their living room. We will be filmeing this in Phoebe and Sophie's living room.

PRELIM VIDEO CHOICE - BENNY "BOYS WILL BE BOYS"

For our prelim, we have chosen to replicate Benny - "Boys Will Be Boys". We chose this because the editing used in the second scene is very quick which is common in a lot of music videos so it will give us practice before our final music video. We also liked how in the majority of the shots the camera moves ever so slightly and we thought that it would be interesting to recreate this. We will be recreating the prelim up to around 40 seconds, either just before or just after the shot of him walking out of the door. This means that there are two main scenes which we will have to film which include the first 12 seconds of him in the woods and the other scene of him and his father fighting. As well as this, we will have a shot of a blanket covered in paint and another shot of the glass breaking on the floor.
